SUMMARY:LADIES BLINGO EVENING THURSDAY 21ST NOVEMBER 2019
DESCRIPTION:This is our 6th Ladies Blingo Evening. It is one of my favourite events full of laughter\, warmth\, glamour and tremendous support for Ryan’s Meningitis Appeal. 2017 was the most amazing evening\, raising £20\,000 – here is a snapshot. \n \nJoin us for what will be our best ever evening of wining\, dining\, dancing\, bingo and bling whilst raising money for ‘a Life for a Cure‘ and awareness of meningitis. \nReserve your table for 10 or book single tickets to ensure you and your friends don’t miss out on this spectacular event. Get dressed up and wear your bling!  Tickets priced at £70 per head include fizz on arrival\, 3-course meal\, half a bottle of wine and obligatory entry to the games of bingo (legs eleven and all that) in between courses! Chatting with your girlfriends and the ‘Hunks in Trunks’ is free! \nWe are seeking donations towards the Wishing Trees\, Bingo prizes and the Auction. SUMMARY:RYAN'S RUGBY MEMORIAL FESTIVAL TUESDAY 24TH SEPTEMBER 2019
DESCRIPTION:It’s hard to believe that this was the 10th Rugby evening in Ryan’s memory. Each year has been special with a number of schools taking part in the event against Clifton College. We are hugely grateful to all the schools who have participated (1st XV listed below) giving us the opportunity to share Ryan’s next chapter\, raise the awareness of meningitis and celebrate Ryan’s life with a fantastic evening of rugby: \n2010 – BGS\n2011 – BGS\n2012- Colston’s School\n2013- QEH\n2014 – Kingswood School\n2015 – Colston’s School\n2016 – Cheltenham College\n2017 – Llandovery\n2018 – Millfield\n2019 – Millfield \nThis year did not disappoint. The atmosphere was incredible and saw the largest crowds ever with the different teams drawing huge support culminating in the Ryan Bresnahan Cup match between Clifton College v Millfield 1st XV. Clifton enjoyed a comfortable win 29-0  – making it all even after Millfield won last year. Over 2000 supporters who couldn’t make it to Bristol\, enjoyed the live-streaming on Facebook and you can check it out here.  Many thanks to Gary Catchpole for making this happen and being so supportive when representing the values behind the match and the work of ‘a Life for a Cure’. \nI received an extremely warm welcome when visiting Millfield school before the event: thank you to John Mallett and the team for being so respectful and supportive. It’s always a pleasure to take a trip to this wonderful campus where I have spent many many hours watching Ryan playing sport over the years from a very young age. \nThe evening wouldn’t be possible without the help of so many people led by Andy & Diana Sayner. Everyone makes such a great contribution in their own way from Sue & the catering girls\, the refs\, the Clifton College students\, to the chaps on the gate who manage to squeeze everyone in which can be tricky just before the match starts! \nHuge thanks to Matthew Salter\, Director of Rugby at Clifton College for developing the event into something so very special. It is such a tribute to Ryan that this annual fixture remains in the Clifton College calendar and we are extremely grateful for their support. Take a look at their coverage of the event. \nIt was an honour to have Ioan Lloyd\, Callum Sheedy and Luke Morahan from Bristol Bears to present the trophies. Ioan and Callum are ex Clifton and Millfields pupil\, making it extra special for them to be part of this event. DESCRIPTION:If you’re looking for motivation to get fit in 2019\, how about entering a gorgeous yet challenging rural 10km race? The Chew Valley 10k is sponsored by Debbie Fortune Estate Agents and is now open for entries. It takes place on Sunday 9 June 2019 at 9.30am\, starting at Bishop Sutton Football Club (BS39 5XN) near Chew Valley Lake. \nThe race follows a scenic route around the Chew Valley and this year will open to a maximum of 1000 runners of all abilities who will run along mostly traffic-free country lanes. There is a short challenge in the shape of Coley Hill\, following which runners are rewarded with fantastic countryside views and a fast\, downhill finish. \nA Life for a Cure is delighted to be one of the beneficiaries alongside Blood Bikes NICU Support\, Bishop Sutton Primary School Society and Chew Valley School Society. \nEntry to the Chew Valley 10k is now open and costs £20 plus admin fee (£18 for affiliated club runners) and the fee includes a free technical T shirt\, bespoke event medal and photo download. On entry you can also choose to support one of the main beneficiary charities and fundraise while running. \nIn addition to the 10km race\, children aged 4-14 years can enter a 1km race (entry fee £5) which takes place immediately after the 10km race finish. SUMMARY:RYAN'S 10TH HOCKEY TOURNAMENT 2019
DESCRIPTION:RYAN’S HOCKEY TOURNAMENT WAS THE VERY FIRST ‘A LIFE FOR A CURE’ EVENT IN 2010. It has grown each year to be a truly fabulous day and it’s hard to believe this was our 10th one! \nEmily Atkinson and her family originally came up with the idea weeks after their friend died so suddenly. We will always be so grateful for such a positive reaction at such a sad time and for the joy the event has given to the hundreds of supporters who have attended over the years. The true essence of the event has been admirably passed through the different age groups\, abilities and connections to Ryan\, who have taken part to create a fun\, happy and inspiring day at the outstanding sports facilities donated by Clifton College. \n \nThe sunshine was reluctant to appear much throughout the day but the wind and drizzle only enhanced spirits – especially when it came to the raffle when we nearly lost all the tickets! We have been incredibly lucky with the weather over the years and perhaps the rain this year was Ryan’s tears of FOMO and that it was Emily’s last year of being at the helm! Emily has been the driving force behind the whole day and we will truly miss her enthusiasm\, kindness\, energy\, determination and commitment to making Ryan’s Hockey Tournament such a memorable occasion for everyone…. and raising £30\,000! She has also become a real brand ambassador of ‘a Life for a Cure’ sharing Ryan’s story to raise meningitis awareness. Thank you\, Emily\, for being amazing! \n  \nEven with Emily’s extensive skill set\, the day could not happen without the help of so many amazing supporters and friends\, many of them helping\, umpiring\, donating prizes\, baking\, at all 10 tournaments. Pippa Atkinson seeks no accolade\, but the day would not function without her – thank you so much for everything! We are incredibly lucky to be surrounded with such loyalty and kindness – thank you! \n \nThe standard of hockey was at a high\, not to mention the quality of the fancy dress costumes with The Cavies snatching the prize. The winners were ‘Team Elite’ (above) who joined us as part of their hockey tour and heard about the event through Salmon Hockey who were runners up. Snow White and the Dwarfs took the plate this year but watch out for their name on the winner’s trophy in years to come! It was great that GB forward Lily Owsley had a break in her hectic hockey schedule to join us again: huge thanks Lily for the raffle prizes too! \n \nSmifSports must be thanked for producing the most wonderful snapshots at many of the ‘a Life for a Cure’ events over the years. Thanks to Peter Smith\, we now have an extensive\, enjoyable\, engaging and endearing catalogue forming part of Ryan’s next chapter. \nWith the hugely generous annual support of Burston Cook\, the event raised £2\,000 towards vital meningitis research and awareness. We are so grateful to every player\, supporter\, donor\, umpire\, helper and everyone who has ever participated in this fabulous day. It is\, without doubt\, a day that Ryan would have loved\, especially the banter that continues with the presence of all Ryan and Charlotte’s dear and loyal friends who prioritise this day in their busy lives – and turn up almost on time after their usual antics the night before but always with smiles and warmth. We are so lucky! \n \nA favourite shot when the hockey was over that epitomises the spirit of the day….. \nHuge thanks to everyone and we look forward to seeing you all next year on May 24th 2020! SUMMARY:Ryan's Hockey Tournament 2018
DESCRIPTION:RYAN’S HOCKEY TOURNAMENT WAS THE VERY FIRST ‘A LIFE FOR A CURE’ EVENT IN 2010. IT HAS GROWN EACH YEAR WITH OVER 250 PLAYERS TAKING PART YEAR ON YEAR. \n \n2018 didn’t disappoint! Despite the thunderous start that was met with laughter and unfailing enthusiasm\, the day was absolutely brilliant as always with the sun declaring its presence from lunchtime. \nYour annual hockey tournament is just fantastic! It brings together clubs from all over the area and players of all ages – a true community event ….. and great fun to boot! \nCongrats to Firebrands team who were the winning team on the day – huge thanks to the players for coming year on year. But of course\, everyone is a winner on the day. It is just the most fun day: full of banter\, laughter\, spirit\, excellent hockey and support. \nThe day wouldn’t be possible without so much help from our team of helpers who all dedicate their time – many of them being part of the event since 2010. Special thanks must go to Emily and Pippa Atkinson who truly make it happen – always with a smile and a solution! This year was a huge test with gazebos flying off to gazebo heaven overnight\, after having spent hours erecting them the day before! All good fun and we now have access to an excellent sturdy one when needed next year! \n \nHuge thanks to everyone who played\, helped\, donated\, supported and with the help of Burston Cook’s sponsorship raised £2\,600. @smifsports smashed the photos as always – thanks Peter Smith. \n \nThe event is truly everything that Ryan would love. \n

DESCRIPTION:Please join us for this amazing annual event that has evolved into a real festival of Rugby in memory of Ryan. The evening will look like this;- \n5.20pm – Girls Mini Tournament. Clifton College\, Millfield\, Llandovery and Colstons’ (other pitch) \n5.45pm – Prep School Match. Clifton College v Kings Hall  (main pitch) \n5.45pm – U16 Match. Clifton College v Millfield (other pitch) \n7.15pm – 1st XV Match. Clifton College v Llandovery \nWe are really excited for the girls and U16 teams to be taking part for the first time this year. We very much welcome all the players\, staff and supporters from each school and as usual\, it’s all set to be a fantastic evening. The atmosphere is always incredible and we’d love to see you there – everyone is welcome! \n \nHuge thanks to Matthew Salter\, Director of Rugby at Clifton College for making it happen and to Clifton College for this fantastic annual fixture that started in 2010. SUMMARY:Ryan’s Hockey Tournament 2017 Sunday 28th May
DESCRIPTION:Ryan’s Hockey Tournament was the very first ‘a Life for a Cure’ event in 2010. It has grown each year with over 250 players taking part in 2016 when we reached an amazing fundraising total of £400\,000!\nThe idea\, like always\, is for a fun hockey tournament for all ages and abilities\, a big BBQ\, hopefully some sun: a great way to pay tribute to Ryan and support our cause – which essentially is to stop other amazing lives being lost to meningitis. ALL abilities are welcome. Mixed teams of minimum 6 a-side with at least 2 girls or 2 boys. Enter a team as soon as you can – last year we had to turn people away as we had over 30 teams! \nThere will be a prize for the best fancy dress again – this has been brilliant every year and look forward to seeing some of the interesting creations!! \nThe day wouldn’t be possible without some umpires! We would love to hear from you if you could spare an hour or two. The rules are pretty basic and just a decent hockey knowledge is required – and a loud whistle! We will feed and water you and be extremely grateful ….forever! \nIt is everything that Ryan would love  – especially the banter! Please take part or if hockey isn’t your thing\, we would really appreciate your support at this fantastic family event that is sponsored by Burston Cook. \nCan’t wait to see you there. SUMMARY:Durham University - Hatfield College Charity Fashion Show
DESCRIPTION:The Fashion Show has become one of the biggest and most prestigious events in the Hatfield College’s Social calendar at Durham University. \n‘a Life for a Cure’ was delighted to be voted the charity to benefit from the event in March 2016 and are so grateful for the donation of £4\,800. Huge thanks to all the students who attended the evening and organised this fantastic event and in particular\, Charlotte Bresnahan and her friends for suggesting Ryan’s Meningitis Appeal. \nMichelle Bresnahan said “It’s really comforting for students to engage and be aware of meningitis. This devastating disease can affect anyone of any age\, at any time\, but one of the most ‘at risk’ age groups that often gets overlooked\, is young people aged between 15 and 24 years.” \n

DESCRIPTION:This was the first event for ‘a Life for a Cure’ – so will always be very special. \nIt is a really fun day with great hockey for all ages and abilities. The minimum age is 10 – but there is no maximum! \nThe teams need to be mixed with at least 2 girls or boys – 6 a-side – and is fancy dress of which there is a prize for the best team. \nEntrance is £10 per player which includes a BBQ lunch. \nSpectators are welcome to be part of this brilliant event and enjoy the BBQ\, cakes and be lucky in the raffle! \nThank you for your support and really hope you can be part of the day!!! SUMMARY:The Ryan Bresnahan Trophy Clifton College Hockey 1st XI v OC’s XI
DESCRIPTION:Clifton College have kindly donated The Ryan Bresnahan Trophy which will be presented to the winner of the annual fixture of the schools 1st Hockey XI v Old Cliftonian XI. 2012 was the first year and was particularly special as it included all the players that Ryan shared many great experiences with during his hockey career at Clifton\, and more recently whilst playing for the 1st XI in 2009 and 2010. 2013 will see strong competition to be selected for the OC team as obviously all Ryan’s year group have now become Old Boys. The current school 1st XI will certainly give them a good contest in regaining the trophy after their 3-2 win last year. Both teams will proudly wear their ‘a LIFE for a CURE’ match tops – with the exception of number 11 that was Ryans last position. Please come and join us at BB at 6.30pm to share in this very special evening. Raffle and refreshments will be available throughout the evening with curry supper in the pavilion afterwards. Voluntary donations with 100% of funds contributing to Ryan’s Meningitis Appeal. We are very proud and honoured that this exciting fixture will be in Ryan’s name – and will continue to be so for years to come. DESCRIPTION:Congratulations and thank you to Helen Currie\, Karen Brooks\, Nicola Tucker and Paul Spicer who completed the Tandem Parachute Jump. You are all completely amazing\, not to mention brave! I was honoured to witness the girls magnificent fall and so much enjoyed being part of their experience. The staff at Netheravon Parachute Centre were all brilliant and made the day so enjoyable for all involved. \nGood Luck to Alison Cook who is hopefully going to jump in summer 2013. \nOver £9\,000 has been raised – which is fantastic! Thank you to everyone who sponsored these courageous jumpers and have shared their wonderful achievement. \n

For that you will enjoy(?!) 2 hours of fitness delivered by 4 fitness professionals and a delicious barbeque lunch.
