It is with a heavy heart that we are having to cancel Ryan’s Hockey Tournament this year due to the current social distancing restrictions.

This was our very first charity event in 2010, where each year since has been a highlight in our calendar. The true essence of the event has been admirably passed through the different age groups, abilities and connections to Ryan, who have taken part to create a fun, happy and inspiring day. This is something we don’t want to lose!

As we celebrate the 10th year of Ryan’s ‘next chapter’ the best way we can right now, we’d like to bring everyone together for a fun ‘social distanced’ hockey challenge….

10 hockey flick ups – to mark 10 years – at 10am
(Sunday 24th May)

Lily Owsley GB & England hockey player is going to start us off with her hockey wizardry just before 10am!

We would love you all to film your 10 hockey flick ups with the hashtag – #10repsforryan – and tag us in your Instagram story. For those of you not on social, please text your video to Michelle Bresnahan on 07971 878737.

FAQ’s

Q: “What is a hockey flick up?”
A:  Flicking a hockey ball up on your hockey stick 10 times

Q: “What if I haven’t got any hockey kit with me?”
A:  No hockey kit is not an excuse – think toilet roll, sweeping brush, tennis racket – anything will do!

Q: “Can we only take part if we’ve played in the Tournament?
A:  Absolutely not! We would love as many people as possible to take part – so please share with family, friends, partners, neighbours & ask them to share it too!

Q: “What should we wear?”
A:  Fancy dress & lockdown PJ’s very much encouraged!

Q: “Is there a fee to enter?”
A:  No! But if you feel you would like to donate to Ryan’s Meningitis Appeal – please check out the fundraising page.

We are obviously devastated not to be able to run this event – especially this year – 10 years on from when we lost Ryan to meningitis. It is always such a fun day to share Ryan’s story, raise awareness of meningitis and raise valuable funds to eradicate this devastating disease. We are incredibly keen for this event not to be forgotten and hope we can count on your continued and most amazing support with our fun virtual hockey challenge: #10repsforryan.

We are looking forward to ‘seeing’ you all on Sunday 24th May at 10am. Who knows…. may be it can take place in it’s true form before schools return in September – if not then we truly hope Ryan’s Hockey Tournament will return Sunday May 23rd 2021 – it’s always the second May Bank Holiday Sunday!

Thanks as always for your time and support.
