The 2.6 Lockdown Challenge

Date: Sunday, April 26, 2020

On Sunday 26 April, when thousands of runners and spectators should have been turning the capital’s streets into a colourful carnival at the 40th edition of the London Marathon, people of all ages were running, cycling, hopping, skipping, cooking, flipping, cartwheeling, bouncing, dressing up and having fun to fundraise in a uniquely British way.

The 2.6 Challenge brought joy to lockdown, dominating the news and social media as the nation united to help save the UK’s charities. The 2.6 Challenge, born out of the biggest mass participation sports event, officially started on 26 April, and in just 16 days had raised more than £10 million. We were chuffed to bits that our supporters joined in the campaign with their own challenges. Check out what they got up to within the parameters of lockdown – truly inspirational stuff!

The Jamers Somerset Marathon

Sian James was set to be running the London Marathon alongside family friend, Josh Packer. We are so grateful that she felt she didn’t want to let her sponsors and Ryan down, so decided to undertake her own challenge alongside her family; Mark, Olly and Phoebe. Here’s what they achieved:

  • Sian and Phoebe completed 13 miles each in 2hours 16mins
  • Olly ran the full 26.2 miles in 4hours 31mins
  • Mark cycled 26.2 miles alongside Olly in 4hours 31mins.

Having spent many holidays and celebrations with the ‘Jamers’ through Ryan’s childhood, it’s amazing to see them together as a family running in his name. We can’t wait for October 4th to see Sian take on the actual ‘London Marathon’ – go Sian! There’s still a few months to help further smash her fundraising goals – check out her page!

“It’s 10 years since Michelle, John and Charlotte lost their precious boy, so if you are able to support this cause we would be so grateful. I will be running the marathon in October for all those kind people who have already supported me… I won’t let you down… nor you Ryan x.”  Sian James, 2020.

Pollys 26.2km run around the garden

Fancy running around your garden 170 times? Well, that’s exactly the idea that Clifton College student and our avid supporter, Polly Pyke came up with! Polly had the support of her family and dog, Inca, during her amazing 26.2km achievement – certainly putting our ‘stay at home’ activities to shame!

We are really grateful for Polly’s support and everyone who sponsored her. Click here for Polly’s fundraising page.
